Modern Child's Prayer
Martha Little
Please God let me be a kid a little longer
Even though all I do is squander
But really this is all I ask
There’s a reason that I live in the past
The buttons have been pushed
To fast forward my life
I have not played in the sun nor laughed in so long
It is like a soon forgotten song
My peers and I should not be given the life of adults
When we can’t even drive nor cast a vote
We worry our minds on solitary things
Driving our young hearts to scream
Please dear God slow time down
Let us lose what we were made to have found
Bring us back to innocence and days in the sun
Please just let me run, run, run
